KRISTEN HARRISON

About Passerby

Passivity is not an emotion or state I encounter very often, but it took control of me when the world recently became volatile and uncertain. Confusing consumption with distraction but not focused or energized enough to participate in the anxiety, I spectated as the daily shifted from a concrete set of routines and roots to a demise of control over possible routes. These images depict a bleakness that does not yield to chaos, but rather chooses to watch it pass. Taken from the security and comfort of a car, the photos were decisions to apathetically recreate the a suddenly lack of directionality, but the production of such work is now an engagement with and confrontation of those feelings I have tried to avoid.

About Kristen

Kristen has been a photographer and editor since she started with a point and shoot at age 11. Her 11-year-old self was unaware of the beginning of life through a lens. Real or constructed, she snapped everything. And when she didn't have a camera on her, she always wished she did. The same is true today. Kristen constantly finds herself searching the lighting, shapes, and expressions of everyday situations. The beauty of growing as a photographer is that she have started to see differently. Watching a moment has great artistry. Pressing the shutter and stopping that moment in time is a great privilege.
